Janika Francis

Janika Francis is an Associate Family Law Lawyer at Family Law Solutions. She was called to the Bar with the Law Society of Ontario in 2025.

Ms. Francis earned her Juris Doctor from Toronto Metropolitan University’s Lincoln Alexander School of Law, where she received the Spring Forward Award and the Loopstra Nixon LLP Award in the Business of Lawyering for leadership and innovative contributions to the legal community. She also holds an Honours Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Mental Health Studies (High Distinction) from the University of Toronto, where she received the President’s Scholars of Excellence Scholarship and the Prudential Spirit Award Scholarship for academic excellence and community service. Her background in mental health informs a trauma‑informed, culturally sensitive practice that supports families from all backgrounds, particularly those navigating unique cultural and social dynamics in family breakdown.

Ms. Francis articled with the Family Responsibility Office (Legal Services Branch, Ministry of the Attorney General), where she managed more than 150 enforcement files and appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice and the Superior Court of Justice on default hearings, refraining motions, licence suspension reviews, and warrants of committal. She continues to serve as FRO Panel Counsel, appearing across Ontario to enforce support orders, with a reputation for being compassionate and uncompromising regarding arrears.

Growing up within the South Asian community, Ms. Francis was inspired by resilient single mothers, shaping her commitment to family law and support enforcement. She is passionate about ensuring that families—especially those facing cultural or systemic barriers—receive fairness and stability. For her, family law is more than a profession; it is a calling. She believes justice in this area begins with compassion and is completed through accountability.

Outside of her legal work, Ms. Francis has volunteered with the Toronto Distress Centre, supporting individuals in crisis, and with the Canadian Tamil Professionals Association, mentoring young professionals and contributing to community development. In her spare time, she enjoys music and dance.
